A6X Installed in an Athearn Genesis SD75M

ATHEARN GENESIS SD75M

Here is an easy but eye-popping install.

The top part of the photo shows the Athearn Genesis loco as it comes with the many wires running between the light board and the 1.5 volt bulbs in the shell.

Replacing the light board with the A6X decoder and connecting the rail and motor leads was a snap.

Now for the eye-popping part.

  • A blue wire is run from the 1.5 volt pad on the A6x to one side of each bulb in the shell
  • A white wire is run from the white terminal on the A6X to the other side of every bulb you want on when the loco is moving forward
  • A yellow wire is run from the yellow terminal on the A6X to the other side of every bulb you want on when the loco is moving forward
  • If you want additional MARS or Gyro lights or ditch lights, the four additional pads on the decoder are used with appropriate wire colors

You have a much cleaner installation with only a few wires running between the frame and the shell.
