Installation Notebook:

Sound Installed in Athearn Genesis F7A

After several different setups, Bruce has finally settled on this as the quickest, best sounding install for these popular locos.

F9A

The speaker enclosure cemented to the chassis with Cyanoacrylic   (super) glue or other adhesive. The decoder board installs in place of the Athearn light board.

DETAILS

The 1.5 volt bulbs are the tricky part. This particular loco had a GyraLight and a "constantly on" headlight. Bruce wired the GyraLight to the rear decoder terminals and remapped the function to be on when going forward with the GyraLight effect. The headlights were wired to the front terminals. Each set of terminals had the two diode and one resistor regulator described in the DCC University!

Customer suggestion:

He tried one of our Genesis cab diesel installations, which was designed to be quick and easy. He found the sound a bit weak for his taste. He machined the frame down and used a SP-28R-08 and SP-28R-ENC. He feels that the improved sound is worth the extra effort.
