Installation Notebook:

Decoder Installed in Athearn GP60M

The 2004 vintage “DCC Ready” locos from Athearn have a JST (white 9 pin) socket wired inside the loco. So you just:

  1. remove the shell
  2. unplug the jumper board
  3. plug in the decoder
  4. tape the decoder down to the board
  5. test and program it
  6. reinstall the shell
  7. Clean and lube the loco

This customer wanted a Lenz decoder. A JST decoder from your favorite vendor could be used:
