Installation Notebook:
DCC Installed in HO Scale Austrains Type 80
There isn’t a lot of room in these Austrains 80 class models. There is little room between the top of the weight and the shell. Fortunately a DZ143 will fit under the light support, held in place with Kapton tape. The rest of the installation is pretty straight forward. Austrains does NOT follow NMRA wiring colors, so care must be taken to connect the decoder correctly to the trucks and motor. The existing ”track voltage” bulbs work just fine.

Hint - insert four toothpicks - one near the inside wheel of each truck - between the shell and the frame to remove the shell.

Beware - this loco has a PLASTIC frame!
