DCC Installed in Kato GP35 (first run)

The Kato GP35 uses a complex system of weights and light pipes. Installing an Atlas or Kato light board replacement decoder would have required major rework of the loco.
Insulating the motor and bulbs from the power bus on the gray plastic light board is necessary. Then the decoder is wired to the power bus, bulbs and motor. Smooth Lenz BEMF control of this great running loco is achieved. Pulling power and traction are not compromised and the nice lighting is retained.
When this install was done, the LE1025-WH was the decoder of choice and that is what was shown in the photo. Today Bruce would use a Lenz Silver-MP.
