To get every bit of performance out of this loco, a DSX and DZ143 decoder pair was selected.

Every bit of white plastic starting under the DZ143 and working to the right in the photo is there to create an infinite baffle for the speaker. Doesn’t sound good until the shell is on, but then it is a great sounding installation. Since the LifeLike bulbs (1.5 v) need to change, Golden White LEDs were chosen.

Call me picky, but I replaced the insulating tape under the motor with Kapton. LifeLike had used plastic electrical tape which, with time and heat would have become a ball of goo! Also, I replaced the stiff wires between the trucks and the decoder with 2951 super flexible wire.
