Installation Notebook:

Sound installed in HO Boxcar

A true “sound car” in a box car. This is a frequent way to get sound in that special diesel! Not used as frequently with steamers, with their big tenders.

There is room enough in this 50 foot HO box car for a DSX decoder, two large speakers and a  large amount of “keep alive” capacitance. At the time of this install, Litchfield Station did not stock the C-2200uF25V capacitors, so an equivalent was made from available parts. Today the installation would be much cleaner!

The sound is great and it keeps going over those electrical drop outs.

Richmond Controls wipers (EZ61Wprs) pick up the DCC power from the metal wheeled trucks.
