DCC Decoder Installations
I Want to do it Myself
Great. It's generally not that hard if you have some knowledge of soldering, are careful, and can follow instructions. Decoders are sensitve to excess heat from the soldering process and can be shorted out by connection errors. Also there may be space issues in mounting in the decoder inside the loco.
At the DCC University, we provide tips on installation and the instructions that come with each decoder explain all that is needed.
I Want Litchfield Station to do it.
Quality workmanship is the hallmark of Litchfield Station’s decoder installations. Bruce’s decades of electronic design and manufacturing experience and reputation for customer service assure your complete satisfaction.
With many DCC vendors, their focus is selling stuff and they offer installations
because they need to to sell equipment. While we sell the equipment you
will need to fully enjoy your layout,
At Litchfield Station, the focus is installations.
Be aware of one issue. DCC will NOT “fix” an ailing loco. DCC
tends to exaggerate the performance of locos. If it runs well on DC,
it will probably run GREAT on DCC. If it runs poorly, most likely, it will
run poorer on DCC. If you send a loco to Litchfield Station for an install
and it is not running well, I cannot install DCC with any expectation of
customer satisfaction. Save both of us the time and expense and don’t
ask. Yes, I do offer to remotor SOME locos on a TIME and MATERIALS basis
only: eMail for information.
How do I book an install?
Contact us by eMail or phone with eMail and phone contact information, as well as as much loco information as you can muster, including scale and sound or DCC only. We can give you an idea of our current schedule and put you into the queue and issue you a place number per loco. We’ll be in contact with you when it is time to send your loco - please do NOT send it until we tell you to.
